What a fabulous celebration of the last 40 years of the Huntsbury Community Centre on Saturday!
It was great to have our current tenants starting the afternoon with Huntsbury Preschool‘s wonderful inside play area and toys for the children, with face painting and their adventurous outdoor setting open too.
As the afternoon moved on we had displays of Table Tennis, Martial Arts, Israeli Dance, Tai Chi, Pilates and Nia Technique.
Moving to our evening celebrations, delicious finger food was provided by Opawa Bakery, fine wine provided by our local Tussock Hill Vineyard, and additional provisions from St Martins New World.
Extra special mention needs to go to three individuals: Jude Bastion for the beautiful flower arrangements in the foyer, Stephanie Nixon who created a wonderful book for written recollections and a record of the day, and to Fiona Hoskins for the exquisite rose covered cake, which was officially cut by Gordon Clark, one of the founding members.
Thanks must also go to Trimble Navigation for the loan of the projector to show footage of the “Opening Day 1975”, and “10 Years On”. The volume on these recordings is unfortunately poor, so we have posted them here for you to listen again in a quieter setting! If you would like to download the full videos, please click here for “Opening Day 1975” (260MB) or here for “10 Years On” (32MB).
The wall of memorabilia showcasing the suburb as it grew attracted a lot of attention too; thanks to all those who contributed.
It is a tribute to many when a committee-run community centre can reach the 40 year mark, and it will be delightful to carry on for another 40!
